Onimusha: Way of the Sword Collectibles Guide

Plan the 275-location collectible cleanup: Lion Dogs, Hozuki Pouches, Genma Notes, stones, materials, side activities and the final-mission checkpoint.

Quick answer

Launch completion guides track 275 collectible locations across 11 practical categories in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The safest route is to collect convenient items during the story, unlock the Oni Vision treasure skills, then complete a category-by-category sweep before The Clash at Rendaino.

The 275 total counts location-based entries in those categories. Basic and Special Skill upgrades and equipment enhancements are completion requirements too, but they are upgrade actions rather than additional location rows.

Unlock the search skills before the big sweep

PowerPyx recommends holding Oni Stones until you can obtain Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2 and Oni Vision: Search Range. Together they reduce the chance of walking past material chests, hidden interaction points and upgrade currency.

While exploring, use Oni Vision repeatedly instead of relying only on the visible map. This matters most for Genma Notes, which are concealed more aggressively than the categories with dedicated icons.

Low-risk 100% route

  1. During Missions 1–10, take obvious chests and activate Spirit Mirrors; do not force a complete sweep.
  2. Finish What Lurks in the Shadows so Lion Dogs and related Curious Cases can populate correctly.
  3. Complete Chance Encounters and Mysteries as their map markers appear.
  4. After In the Light of an Icy Moon, clear each region by category.
  5. Before The Clash at Rendaino, make a manual save and verify the first-run checklist.
  6. After the final boss, use Continue to collect the Yoshitsune Genma Note.

What to verify by region

Use the in-game map and Curious Cases list together. A region can look clear while a hidden Genma Note or a material chest remains.

  • Eastern Kyoto: the largest share of Lion Dogs, several Hozuki routes, many material chests and late side activities.
  • Kiyomizu-dera Temple: early story arenas, Lion Dogs and later return checks.
  • Nijo-jo Castle / Underground Laboratory: Mask Puzzle, story collectibles and upgrade items.
  • Mount Oe: multiple Lion Dogs, boss-route Genma Notes and material pickups.
  • Arashiyama: Lion Dogs, late-game boss areas and hidden-note cleanup.
  • Oni Refuge / Imperial Palace: smaller maps with easy-to-overlook post-boss checks.

What carries into New Game Plus?

Current completion guides document carryover for awakened Oni abilities, enhanced skills, Hozuki Pouches and their enhancements, normal items, Charms and enhancements, Genma Notes and Lion Dogs.

They document resets for Mysteries of Kyoto, Chance Encounters, clothing, Sword and Gauntlet enhancements, Red Souls and Spirit Mirror unlock progress. Because the categories do not all behave the same way, finishing the first-run cleanup before starting NG+ is safer than assuming a single carryover rule.

Frequently asked questions

Are collectibles missable?

Launch routes treat the collectible cleanup as recoverable before the finale, and Continue returns before the final battle. A manual save before The Clash at Rendaino remains the safest protection.

Why is a Lion Dog missing from another map?

Lion Dogs outside Kyoto may not appear until the relevant map has been liberated and its final boss defeated.

Why am I stuck at 22 Genma Notes?

The Yoshitsune entry becomes available only after defeating the final boss and returning behind Rokudo-chinnoji Temple.
