Onimusha: Way of the Sword Hidden Treasure Locations
Find Hidden Treasure No. 1–5 with Old Drawing pickup areas, story requirements, exact landmarks, Oni Vision interactions and separate chest rewards.
Quick answer
The five Hidden Treasure Chance Encounters send you to different heights and landmarks in Eastern Kyoto. Receive the matching Old Drawing, follow its search area to the spot below, use Oni Vision to expose a symbol, then interact with that symbol to reveal the chest. Open the chest to collect its contents.
For Hidden Treasure No. 1, start at the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope Spirit Mirror and climb both ladders to the upper roof. The marker at street level is only a search area.
Route spoilers for all five treasures. Checked October 13, 2026 against a gameplay guide and written references. Individual prerequisites and pickup districts below use the fan-made Onimusha.tools database, which identifies its source as Steam build 24769601; later patches and platform differences have not been independently tested.
Old Drawings: unlock and pickup checklist
Accept each numbered encounter before searching for its chest. The NPC's account of meeting Yorimasa at Yasui Konpiragu Shrine does not mean every drawing is handed to Musashi at that shrine. Use the actual pickup district and your current encounter marker.
| Drawing | Required story mission in the build reference | Pickup district | Treasure destination |
|---|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | A Tempest at the Temple | Gojo Street – West | Upper roof near Kiyomizu-zaka Slope |
| No. 2 | To Live is to Suffer | Kiyomizu-zaka Slope | Waterfall below Yasaka Pagoda |
| No. 3 | Okuni's Kabuki Dance | Shijo Street | Temple garden near Kamo River – East |
| No. 4 | The Demon on the Mount | Shijo Street | Small shrine balcony beyond Gojo Street – East |
| No. 5 | In the Light of an Icy Moon | Shijo Street | Upper south side of Yasaka Pagoda |
The individual mission records list different prerequisites. Advance the relevant story mission if its encounter is absent; reaching Eastern Kyoto alone does not establish that all five are available. Our walkthrough helps place those missions in the story route.
Hidden Treasure No. 1: climb to the second roof
Receive Old Drawing No. 1 from the woman in the Gojo Street – West area, then travel to Kiyomizu-zaka Slope. Look for the narrow passage beside the nearby buildings.
The route has two separate climbs: a long ladder onto the first roof, followed by a shorter ladder onto the higher one. Stay on that upper roof and inspect its right side with Oni Vision. When the symbol appears, interact with it and open the revealed chest. Searching the alley beneath the rooftop will leave you close to the marker but at the wrong elevation.
Hidden Treasure No. 2: descend to the waterfall
The man in the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope district gives the second drawing. Its useful landmarks are the pagoda, a ladder and the water.
Use the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Mirror as your route anchor. Follow the nearby stream and lower path toward the small waterfall west of the pagoda, descending the ladder rather than remaining on the upper walkway. At the foot of the falls, use Oni Vision and interact with the exposed symbol. If the pagoda looks correct but the chest is missing, check the water's lower level.
Hidden Treasure No. 3: search inside the garden gate
Take the third drawing from the woman in the Shijo Street area, west of its Spirit Mirror. Then travel to Kamo River – East and approach the nearby temple grounds.
Enter the garden from the temple entrance east of the mirror and move to the right toward the large closed gate. The gameplay route approaches the temple where Ifu and Burai were fought, then turns right again toward the gate. Search from inside the enclosure, not from the road outside the tall wall. Use Oni Vision at the gate, activate the symbol and open the chest.
Hidden Treasure No. 4: use the left balcony
Collect the fourth drawing from the man on Shijo Street. Travel to Gojo Street – East, then take the surrounding southern approach toward the small shrine-like building in the northeast.
Climb toward the building and clear the Genma along the route. At the shrine, continue around its left exterior to the balcony instead of going through the entrance. Inspect the end of that balcony with Oni Vision and interact with the symbol. The chest also includes Tamahagane in the build reference and gameplay narration, although some written loot lists omit it.
Hidden Treasure No. 5: reach Yasaka Pagoda's upper roof
The final drawing is another Shijo Street encounter. Return to the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Mirror, enter the pagoda grounds and follow the internal ladders upward.
Continue until you emerge onto the upper rooftop. Deal with the Genma there, then work around the roof to its south side and use Oni Vision. Activate the symbol and collect the chest. This is a higher stop than No. 2's waterfall, even though both routes use the same Spirit Mirror. It is also the Hidden Treasure chest containing a Skeleton Hozuki; use our Hozuki Pouch guide for its enhancement use.
Mission rewards and chest contents
The mission records list Oni Treasure as the encounter reward. The revealed chest's materials are a separate collection step. Keep a checklist for both the encounter and the opened chest.
| Treasure | Chest contents listed in the build reference |
|---|---|
| No. 1 | Fine Silk Cloth; Oni Stone ×2 |
| No. 2 | Fine Silk Cloth; Oni Stone ×2 |
| No. 3 | Fine Silk Cloth; Power Stone ×2 |
| No. 4 | Fine Silk Cloth; Power Stone ×2; Tamahagane |
| No. 5 | Fine Silk Cloth; Oni Stone ×2; Skeleton Hozuki |
The reference does not itemize a quantity for every material, so the table only gives counts where stated. Compare your pickup notification with the table if playing a different build. For the broader cleanup route, see collectibles and upgrade materials.
Why is the hidden treasure not appearing?
- No matching drawing: check the numbered encounter and its story requirement first.
- Inside the search circle, no symbol: match the vertical landmark. No. 1 needs the second roof; No. 2 needs the waterfall's base; No. 4 needs the balcony; No. 5 needs the upper pagoda roof.
- Standing by No. 3's wall: enter the temple garden and approach the gate from inside.
- A symbol appears, but no chest: interact with the symbol after using Oni Vision, then open the chest itself.
- Enemies interrupt the search: finish the immediate fight and inspect the landmark again.
Use the Oni Vision action shown by your current controls. These sources do not establish one fixed button across every platform or control preset.
