Onimusha: Way of the Sword Characters and Voice Cast

Find verified English and Japanese voice credits for Onimusha characters, Musashi’s Toshiro Mifune likeness, and spoiler-light character introductions.

Who is the main character?

Miyamoto Musashi is the protagonist of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Capcom presents a young swordsman arriving in Kyoto to prove himself, then confronting a supernatural power he never wanted. His face is based on Toshiro Mifune; his English voice is Kenichiro Thomson and his Japanese voice is Yoshimasa Hosoya.

This guide uses the character introductions below and avoids the ending's revelations. For combat help, start with the beginner guide.

Capcom's protagonist announcement names Musashi's English actor. Shogo Miyakita's own credits list Ono no Takamura. The Japanese credits are from the two Capcom releases linked below. Unverified cells do not mean a character has no English voice: this is a sourced selection, not the complete end-credit roll.

The Curious Cases: Ifuu & Burai video description identifies narrator Yuriri Naka as the Oni Lady's voice. The linked video itself contains enemy introductions; you do not need to watch it to use this spoiler-light cast table.

Looking for Yoshimasa Hosoya? He voices Musashi in Japanese; he is not Musashi's face model or English performer. Toshiro Mifune is the likeness reference. Keep those three credits separate when choosing a voice track or identifying an actor.

Musashi: voice, face and story role

Capcom producer Akihito Kadowaki identifies Thomson and Mifune separately in the PlayStation protagonist announcement. Mifune supplied the likeness used for the character design, not a new voice performance.

Musashi's ambition is to master swordsmanship through his own strength. Receiving the Oni Gauntlet complicates that ambition: it enables him to fight the Genma, but accepting its power is a central conflict. These are the game's fictional circumstances, not a biography of the historical swordsman.

The allies and rival around Musashi

CharacterRole in the official introductions
Oni LadyAn Oni woman within Musashi's gauntlet who advises him and can appear outside it
Ono no TakamuraAn older swordsman whose ability overwhelms Genma; he also wears an Oni Gauntlet
Izumo no OkuniA kabuki dancer staying with Takamura while seeking the strength to fight Genma
Sasaki GanryuMusashi's rival, encountered in the playable demo

Capcom's story-trailer announcement introduces the Oni Lady, Takamura and Okuni. Its character-video announcement identifies Ganryu as the rival faced in the demo.

These are story roles, not a ranking of selectable fighters. To understand what the gauntlet does during play, see souls and the Oni Gauntlet.
