Onimusha: Way of the Sword Ending Explained
Understand Yoshitsune’s defeat, Shizuka’s farewell, Musashi’s survival and the post-credits scene, with story facts separated from sequel speculation.

What happens to Yoshitsune?
Musashi defeats Minamoto no Yoshitsune after the final confrontation. Shizuka explains why the defeat is final: Yoshitsune has taken himself outside the natural cycle, leaving no destination after death. He disappears rather than simply returning to his former imprisonment.
The Sportskeeda ending report connects this to his attempt to combine human, Oni and Genma power. The ambition that drives the confrontation also explains the consequence.
Why does Shizuka leave?
Shizuka returns to restore order in Hell. Her farewell promises that she will continue watching Musashi's path from beyond the Oni Gate. Leaving Musashi is therefore the conclusion of her part in his immediate journey, not evidence that Yoshitsune defeated her.
Does Musashi survive?
Yes. The ending reports show Musashi surviving the castle's collapse and continuing his journey. Souls released from the castle replenish him and loosen the gauntlet. Dokyo and Ganryu remain active after Yoshitsune's defeat.
That leaves a distinction between resolving the final confrontation and eliminating every threat. The credits do not require us to assume that all of Kyoto's enemies have disappeared.
What is in the post-credits scene?
Musashi joins Okuni in a fight against Genma. He is wearing the Oni Gauntlet, and their familiar teasing continues. TechWiser's account identifies this scene as the final story extension after the main ending.
Our interpretation: the contrast with Musashi's initial rejection of borrowed power suggests that he now chooses how to live with that power. The visible gauntlet supports that reading; it does not establish every future use or limitation.
Does this confirm a sequel or a secret ending?
The remaining rivals provide an opening for another story, but a scene is not a release announcement. We have no verified alternate-ending unlock requirement to provide. Do not undertake a full collectible run solely because an unsourced guide promises a secret ending.
